dpeakable, principio, First let me say the WSOD is not as common as it might appear - people let you know then it happens but not when it doesn't, also it may not be permanent.
Now to try and solve the problem. First please read the threads about the WSOD and the steps people have taken to get out of it.
Having done that, try some of the solutions and see what happens - if you are unsure of how to do anything ask here and we'll try and help.
I assume you have both tried the 'power off and restart' process as well as the 'paper clip reset' - what were the results?
Are your units fully charged?
Are they getting hot anywhere?
