I'd say unlikely. This has been in the works for at least 20 years, I don't see it going away. Will the hardware and formats change? perhaps, I'm still rooting for epub or its descendent to be the standard....we're still not quite there yet. If we can get the publishers to realize then end is near we might even get some better prices on ebooks.
