I ended up re partioning and formating the SD card then followed

exactly.
I think previously I missed or skipped a step or two. This time I made sure to follow exactly. The first thing I noted was I could now Reboot to Recovery. Doing that seemed to be what I needed. Have dl and installed a couple of apps so feeling much better.

Now all I need to do is learn the Android OS and commands and icons. Know if a video or post "Android for Dummies" I can follow?
