As nobody else is giving it a trial , here goes my suggestion, Try to tell Calibre which is the source codepage.
Determining this one for .lit can be difficult -- my first choice would be windows 1250 or something like that -- try to see which one Office uses when converting an Italian text to hml -- "charset xxx".
And does the .lit look OK from Calibre viewer? The "inspect" feature from top level (html tag) can show which charset is in use.
