This is almost like one of those "inverted" mysteries, you pretty much know what happens at the beginning, and the rest of the book is him trying to get away with it (establishing a new identity and life).
Surprisingly sordid, too. Really noir more than anything else. Except for the ending, almost something like Cornell Woolrich would write.
