This same technique got me through High School History and Geography (fact laden subjects) and to a smaller degree English Lit (Shakespeare, in particular). I used to write in different sizes too i.e first run through was normal writing; second re-write was small print to cram more on one line; ... last re-writes were miniscule print with only the 'pertinent' parts!

For the Maths and Sciences, it didn't help as much, but that may be because that was where my main interests lay (laid?).
