The cover I was talking about was one that was made and sold by Amazon.com. It has clips that clip into the left side of the Kindle and holds the Kindle onto the cover. The non-lighted cover doesnt have a built in light. The lighted one does. Both the lighted and non-lighted covers work the same way, except that one doesnt have a built in light... and there was something about the non-lighted cover that caused a short in the Kindles, causing them to randomly reboot.
Since your Kindle cover uses straps to keep it in the cover, I'm guessing the cover isnt the thing causing the problem.
Call Kindle customer service...not the regular Amazon customer service, and tell them what's going on. Depending on when you bought your Kindle they'll probably either send you a new one, or give you a discount on a new one.
How long have you had your Kindle?
Amazon has some of the best customer service, so I'd be willing to bet that they end up sending you a new one.
