This story will capture you from the beginning. From the development of interesting characters to the enticing storyline, this is a great read. Anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre, i.e. Brooks, Jennings and the master Tolkien should give this a look.

The characters are vivid and the world they live in feels real. But the best part of this book is that McHugh can really tell a story. Outside of a little necessary downtime to provide background material, the book moves like gangbusters. Great entertainment.

I would have written this glowing review sooner, had I been able to resist diving into the second book of the series "The Pool and the Pedestal" The Pool and the Pedestal (The Seraphinium). Now that I have finished both books I am eagerly awaiting the third installment, hopefully available soon in the Kindle store. The first two books of "The Seraphinium" are set throughout Vel, a world McHugh has cultivated in rich detail. Followers of Avra and followers of Amird are squaring off to determine whether good or evil shall prevail once and for all, and the characters and relationships on both sides of the battle are ones no reader could soon forget. If I say more, I risk giving away some of the incredible twists and turns that will keep you up late reading this astounding series! Highly recommended.
