I haven't tried out Quick News yet, so I can't comment. I'm sure there will be enough differences between the two products to cater for different audiences.
The beta won't be ready in May. The viewer has been working for some time already, but it's not yet as polished as it should be. I'm currently rewriting the desktop portion in C++, which adds to the workload. It's hard to give an estimate at this point. I'm not going to rush things, though.
