The Girl Next Door isn't really "extreme" horror. The whole reason it's so sickening is A.) It's based on a true story, B.) It takes the innocence you had as child that comes back when you read it and rips it to shreds, and C.) It deals with children, and I have a much more difficult time with that than with adults.
I'm going to read Survivor because it sounds interesting, but I think that these are two different animals.
