That's what I try to tell - you cannot be sure a distinct charger is compatible. Even a distinct USB port on your PC could fail. It never was a problem with the non USB connector of say the PRS300.
I forgot: I tried even a crank-charger. When you turn the crank too fast - no charging. When you turn the crank too slow - no charging. When you turn it just right - there could be a chance. But I didn't manage it.
And no, the reader is OK (I have 2 PRS350), no failure.
A.
Sorry for OT

That is the good thing about the iGo system. The tip sets the voltage. So in some cases, the same shape tip may be avaialbel in different models for different devices.
Hand cranked chargers vary the voltage by how fast you crnk. Crank too slow, not enough voltage to charge. Crank too fast and you are overvoltage and portection circuits kick in so you don't charge. Solar has similar problems.
Yes, anything can fail. Which is why, when I travel, I have an iGo wall based charger with tips in my checked bag. I have my Charge Anywhere with tips in my carry on. And the AA based device goes in one or the other. The iGo cable and tips can also be used with any USB port on a computer or a device that converts wall power into USB port output.
Thus I have backups to my backups.
