For what it is worth I have a Sony and a Kindle, and rarely use the Kindle.

I also have an iPad, and have loaded some of my ePub books on to it, using their iBooks reading software. They can be read on the iPad, but quite often paragraphs which are centered on the Sony are flush left on the iPad. It's a known bug, and if you can edit ePub files can be fixed.
