Actually, that is not true. I have many Kindle books, from Amazon, without DRM, that have the .azw file extension. I just changed the file extension to read them with Mobipocket Reader.
If you really have the Kindle app in both places, you have to download a copy of the book for that application. One with DRM from one app will not open in a different app.
Edited to add: I don't know anything about the Pocket Edge. If it doesn't have internet connectivity, I don't think you can fetch Kindle books without sideloading, and Amazon does not give the option to download and transfer for the apps. You'd have to remove the DRM.
