I went by the shelter today and the dog is still there. I put in first choice for adoption papers, but now I have to get Norton's city tag up to date before the 12th. His shots and monthly heart-worm prevention are all up to date, but I've been kind of slack on the city tags.
One of my wife's trucks is being repaired, and the other doesn't work, so she's using my car to go back and forth to work three times a day. Doesn't leave me much time to run around and get my ducks in a row. I don't know why she doesn't just sell trade them both in on something that runs.
My first choice would be for the owners to come to the shelter and claim that dog. We don't need another dog, can't afford another dog, and she's much bigger than I would like as a companion for Norton, but I'll be damn if I'll let the shelter kill her. She's too sweet, and I promised her today that everything would be okay.
If I do get her, and that looks likely, I'll name her Crystal. She's a big, black lab. Crystal seems right.

I hope all goes well with you with your new adoption. I truly don't understand owners that abandon their dogs, or that don't try to find lost pets. Why did they bother having a pet in the first place?
I know how persuasive those big Lab eyes can be! You've made a wonderful promise to her!
