That and I don't believe the hype that everything will be equally offered in Mobi/Epub/Whatever version. There are Mobi/Epub copies on Overdrive right now for the same book and they aren't bundled for me, so I don't really believe they'll necessarily be bundled for libraries. Conversion in the future may still be necessary.

I don't myself much care what the creators of ... you know ... do with regard to this particular format and rentals. I'm just grateful they do their thing period, because I think it's awesome when folks share code. They don't need to go do MORE WORK for no real reason on this rental format of Amazon's.
But at the same time, I don't think the creators need to go off the excellent honor system that they currently have going. That sort of thinking is, frankly, what got us DRM locks in the first place.
