We had quite an eventful morning today.

In my city along most of the main canal there's a lower level where the basements exit (see this photo). One of our basements, however, can't be access through our house. This morning at 7 am the police rang that our neighbour had seen men entering that basement and the police caught one man red handed when he was emptying our basement of old metal stuff that was in there.

A year ago we the contractor of the council was restoring the basement walls and they asked if they could store some stuff in our basement, which my father didn't mind, but they never returned the key. Since there wasn't any damage done my father thinks they hadn't bolted the two bolts on the left door and even if they locked the door (lock is on the right door) it couldn't have been pushed open that way.

Personally it wouldn't surprise me if one of our neighbours had a hand in it. A couple of months ago she asked my father if she could rent it for storage but my father said no. Today I chatted with her son and he told me that she wanted to continue cleaning that basement out so she could use it. I think she had asked the guy that was arrested to clean it out for her. Not that that's our problem.

I think they are going to continue restoring the wharfs soon but that contractor isn't allowed to use the basement any more and he's going to get the bill for a new lock my father had to put on the door.

What surprised me most was that the police came by later this morning to have my father sign a statement, usually you have to go the police station at a certain time to get things done.
