At least for
MobiPocket WIKIPEDIA is already compiled in several sizes with and without pictures. I use a distinct offline version of Wikipedia in my still working PALM TX. It's a version without pictures. Very easy to use and very comfortable for a quick look. It's not a must always having the very latest versions.
There are files available < 2GB. Not that large in my opinion.
