Late Wednesday afternoon as my wife and I were heading to the store, we saw a black lab in the road ahead (my wife was driving). I told her to be very careful, as it was obvious that the dog was not "street smart". Sure enough, just as we got closer, the dog walked right in our path. My wife stopped the car, and I got out to see if the dog had any identification. She had a red collar, but not a tag in sight, so I put her in the car, and we took her to animal control. Just a few minutes ago, I called there, and so far no one has come for her. I asked if they could take my name and let me know if no one came to claim her (they have a kill policy: they hold the dog 10 days, then it's goodbye pooch). They said they weren't set up to do that, but I could come in and fill out a first claim form for adoption if the owners don't show up, so I guess that's what I'll be doing next week.
We really don't need a dog that size, and my wife doesn't want another dog at all, but I haven't the heart to see that dog abandoned to its fate. She's obviously a very friendly dog. I'm Norton would love her, right after his jealous butt finished marking all over the house for bringing home a rival for his affections.
