Hmmm... I have evolved a little more complex system over the years for my paper and Kindle ebooks. I have several wish lists on Amazon. One is just a generic public wish list for objects and for books without Kindle versions. Another is "Kindle Books" for immediately to be read Kindle books that have bottomed out in price. Another is a "Long Term" book wish list for books that I don't plan to read right away, but want to keep track of.
These two lists also get periodically sent to eReaderIQ for price tracking. Once the price drops as low as I think it will go, books from "Long Term" move to "Kindle Books"
I know this sounds like a lot of stuff, but it's not hard to manage.
On the kindle, I have genre categories like: pr0n, skiffy, Fantasy, Mystery, Vanilla, Thriller, etc. I also have status categories, like: Pending, Done, Reviewed, Gack!, etc. Generally, a book on my Kindle will be in two categories, a genre, and a status. Like, "Mystery" and "Reviewed". Periodically, I remove the books in downstream categories like "Reviewed" and "Gack!". It's sounds more complicated than it is.
Basically, when I buy a thriller, for example, it winds up in "Pending" and "Thriller". It never leaves "Thriller". When I read it, it goes from "Pending" into "done". Once I've reviewed it, I change it from "done" to "Reviewed". After I'm sure I'm finished with it, it gets removed from the device.
The nice thing about this, is that tracking books is roughly automatic if you do it as you buy/read/review a book. It also lets me buy books as cheaply as practical without a lot of extra work. (Thanks, eReaderIQ!) It's also flexible. I just bought a novel I really wanted to read now from my "Long Term" list, even though I could wait a few months and save a few bucks.
YMMV

Jack Tingle
