I thought I had heard that he had planned for 22 books. It might have been 24.

The good news is that he delivers them regularly. The bad news is that they are pretty predictable and the one person point of view has gotten old. Well, for me, it has gotten old.

I read the books but they are not a must buy and read on the first day any more. I didn't even realize that the latest one had been released until I saw people discussing. It took me a 5 hour plane ride to read it. (shrugs)

I think that the problem with a series of this length, and Wheel of Time and LOTR and other such long running series, is that it gets to the point where you are screaming "Get on with it all ready". In Dresden's case, each book the characters move farther and farther away from their original dispositions and it gets more and more depressing with no real sense that it is going to get better. I don't like how some of the characters have changed, even if the changes are realistic.

At least JKR was able to limit herself to one book per year in school. Jim Butcher needed to find a similar device for Dresden. He was able to do it with the Codex Alera series.

Just one persons opinion.
