The company, the maker of Bravia televisions and Walkman music players, today also said it will launch an online store for its Sony Reader, a digital book reader, in the U.K. in October with over 100,000 titles to challenge Kindle maker Amazon.com Inc. The store will open in Germany and Austria later this year and in France, Italy, Spain next year.

This is the first indication that Sony plans to seriously invest in its ebook business. Releasing a new eink device is one thing; broadening its local content is quite another.
This cannot be good news in the Kobo corporate offices.
