I'm a great lover of detective stories, but I have a lousy memory. If I've put a book down for a week, and, when I resume reading, the detective in the book says "Ah, but Jones did <whatever>...." and I can't remember where Jones last appeared in the book, it's very useful to be able to search for "Jones" and see just what he did last do in the story.
Similarly, as happened last night, I came across the word "insufflator" in a Ngaio Marsh detective story. I'm sure that you know what an "insufflator" is, but I didn't and it increased my enjoyment of the story to be able to look it up in the Kindle's dictionary (it's one of those things with a rubber bulb that blows fingerprint powder onto objects, in case you were wondering

).
