Amazon's recent policy is to announce with a 30 day lead time so anybody who ordered recently can return the older model, creating a 60-day window for buyers to choose and cutting down the buyer blindsiding. And then they ship a week or so early. So it comes out to a 2-3 weeks pre-order window which gives them time to sort out the stampede.
