Well I've handed it back to Waterstones to send off to Sony. So we'll see how this goes.

Frankly I'm not sure about the maturity of eInk. My PRS-300 had the fading-in-the-sun issue (actually the 350 does, but to a much lesser extent).
I contacted Sony about that before, and they said it's to be expected and is an issue with eInk.
Considering that one of the selling points of these devices is the ability to read them in bright sunlight, it seems strange to use a technology know to suffer when you do.

Now with this screen darkening issue after just a few months, I don't have much confidence left in eInk. Let's hope that one of the alternative technologies matures enough to but in e-readers soon. Though it's annoying to have to keep buying a new reader every year to overcome these issues.
