Incorrect.
It does now and has since the original Kindle, play audiobooks in the MP3 format. Controls are the same as with an Audible book (whether or not it has chapters in an MP3 is up to the creator). It doesn't "show the cover" and I have no idea what it would do if you just dropped a zip file with the MP3's into the \audible directory. You are supposed to put each file into the \audible file. They show in the home page, named the same as the MP3 file name (there is no metadata). You scroll down, pick out the chapter you want and play it.
