Damn!! THis is disastrous! I just learned that the Feds have raided the Gibson factory! They are confiscating wood. Legally imported wood from India. Wood NOT on any endangered list...
It seems that India has a law... Its woods must be worked on in India by Indian nationals... Although raw wood can be legally exported, Indian laws say they can't then be machined... So the US Federal government is confiscating all of the Indian rosewood and Indian mahogany at the Gibson plant... and ONLY at the Gibson plant...
Very strange. Most high end guitar makers use Indian rosewood and Indian mahogany. Why are the Feds targeting Gibson? Why not Martin, Guild, Fender, Yamaha? All these makers stopped importing Brazilian Rose Wood, African ebony and mahogany, and only using what is remaining in their stocks (woods are usually bought and stored for many, many years to dry) importing no more endangered woods. This raid on Gibson has nothing to do with US importation or conservation laws, only Indian law...
