Kindle 3G vs Wifi (downloading asleep, Calibre)

Hi all,

I have a Kindles 3 Wifi and my wife has the combination Wifi/3G. Both Special Offers. I like using Calibre to fetch and serve my news wirelessly daily. My Windows 7 scheduler does a nice job of collecting everything at about 5-6am in time for me head out for work. My concern is that I often do not turn the Kindle on before I leave and the next thing I know is that none of the news has wirelessly sent and I am not near a wifi connection (at least one I can connect to in NYC). Before I got the wifi version I had the 3G/Wifi version for several days. I am convinced that the 3G/Wifi downloads more frequently (via wifi that is) from my router and email while asleep. Meaning I believe the 3G whispernet notifies my Kindle that it has some messages over the free.kindle.net, wakes the Kindle, and the device pulls from wifi. The wifi Kindle can also download data while alseep albeit I believe much less frequently--hence the numerous reports of Wifi only Kindles updating overnight. This is my theory. Does anyone have any experience? I do not have access to my wife's 3G/Wifi Kindle at the moment to test. I just want my Kindle to update regularly without turning it on. I know I am getting spoiled but why not--that's how our tech keeps getting better. Thanks!

JM
