Apologies, but this always makes me sigh. Napster has been operating legally since 2003, with the same paid subscription service that now supports Spotify and with a bigger catalogue.

They tried the ad-supported free music concept a couple of years before Spotify launched and like Spotify found that it wasn't sustainable.

I've used their paid service for 6 years now, and it's excellent, both to the desktop and via the Android and iPhone apps (though a black mark is the lower bit rate on the apps).

Yet Spotify has the mindshare.

Here comes the sigh.
