Bottled water in the kitchen. Flashlights, radios, and a stack of batteries at the ready. Cell phone charged. Jugs of water ready to "flush" (we have a well -- no power, no water). Trash and recycling buckets in the garage. Gutters cleaned and downspout extensions have been installed.
Unfortunately, the ground around here is saturated -- Even without Irene we've had more rain so far than any total rainfall for August in history. So, we're going to have floods no matter what, but strong winds will bring down trees -- the roots just won't hold them in mud.
This time tomorrow we'll have seen the end of it, at least. Good luck, everyone.
