As long as my Google skills are up to the task, poohbear's other book looks really good. It looks like they made a BBC TV series out of the books, and at least one of them is available on Netflix.
Woolf is definitely a love/hate type of author. You either love "wallowing" in the characters' thoughts or you don't.

The Gently books are fun reads - I also enjoyed the TV series on DVD - quite loosely based on the books - but Martin Shaw was perfect in the role.
