@molman: This only happens to me when booting from from the fully powered off state. I don't see it if I just put the Kobo into Sleep mode, and turn on again. My guess is that it is either a check of the integrity of the file system on the flash drive, or some test of the integrity of a database on the Kobo. But we are just speculating. People use Kobos is several different ways. But what has seemed to become more clear is that it is not a function of how you load books onto a Kobo that matters. People report the problem with all different methods.
