At least J R R can't be blamed for that... it's Christopher that dredges up every last squiggle to publish from his notes and background creation... and a certain group of fans (in the very real fanatic sense) that encourage Christopher by buying every single thing that can be forced into print... started with the Silmarillion and went downhill from there... Mind you, even J R R could have done with a bit more editing... Tom Bombadil...
