I returned my Touch to B&N because it was defective and they sent me back what I thought was going to be a refurb (because that's what they told me I'd be getting). However, it was packaged like a new one - a shrink-wrapped regular new-Nook box. So, I cannot tell if is a refurb or a new. Reading what you say about the packaging being different on a refurb makes me think maybe I lucked-out and received a new one! Hope so.
