Traveling, especially in 3rd World Countries is especially difficult. I'll eat anything that I see being cooked in front of me from street vendors. The idea of BBQ'd Rat-on-a-Stick doesn't bother me at all. But I've run into a lot of travelers who will ONLY eat at McDonalds or KFC when traveling through S.E. Asia... That can cause a LOT of stress to a couple or group.

ProfCrash has the right idea... Separate vacations from time to time are healthy ways of dealing with differing ideas of 'what is fun.' It's great to be able to share with loved ones and friends, but that is often simply not possible. I love to stay in low budget guest houses but my wife like nice hotels. I think you get to meet more people in the guest houses. Folks in hotels seem to isolate themselves more. When I travel alone, I sleep where I want. When we travel together, we sleep where she wants. It works for us. It reduces all the stress.

At the airport, I want to be the first person at the ticket counter for check in. My wife would be more than happy to be last. But when we travel together, she will be right there with me, first in line. When she travels alone, she moves at her own pace. It works for us.
