I can say with absolute assurance that this applies to ALL relationships, including friends and family members.
I recently took a trip with a friend -- kind of a "girl's road trip." The one thing most aggravating to me during the trip was that at the hotel, the first thing she did upon walking into the room was turn on the tv. That's always the LAST thing I want to do. We finally came to an understanding that if she was actually watching something I didn't care if she turned it on, but I can't stand to have a tv on just for the noise. I don't like noise...
It didn't spoil the trip for me, but it did add a bit of tension that I didn't anticipate.
