My husband's book is available as both Kindle e-book and paperback at Amazon. The Amazon Kindle version is DRM-free, but I realize that not everyone wants to (or knows how to) convert a file from Kindle format to ePub.

I'm a Kindle user myself, and I must confess that I know little about other devices and where ePub readers purchase their e-books. My question is, if an ePub version is made available at Barnes & Noble online, would that be sufficient for users of ePub devices other than Nook?
Pubit (B&N) is a good start, but they only sell in the U.S. I'd also put it in Smashwords. It's not much more work, and they distribute to a bunch of other stores.
