Hmm I've been using temp file cleaners program since ME and never had any
real issues. I recommend using them because virus and worms hide in these folders and that can
destroy your system. There is alot of cleaners out there that are fake. So yes you have to be careful but programs like CCleaner are trustworthy. Back in the day I used Window Washer and few others I can't remember the name of.

I can't tell how many times they have save my system. I have stop using the cleaner program that caused the problem even though it does a good job getting rid of java baddies. I'm just using CCleaner for now and having to manually delete the rest.
The first thing we use to tell people in security forums where I use to help those infected was to run a cleaner program, then hijackthis and so on. Too many viruses are caught by ads, popups and scripts.
Now Registry cleaners are entire matter separately and must be used with the utmost care.
I'm still trying to track down what file it deleted to cause the issue.
