It's me again
I just rebooted the system and tried Calibre again - same failure. The .ICE file has re-appeared and I had to delete it to make Calibre work properly.
OK, it is a solution, albeit one that must be applied every time I want to use Calibre - but it is a solution. I'm still looking for a better one.
