I don't change my avatar. I think it is my "face" for other members. I don't change my real life face besides natural degradation.
Also, it is a fairly true depiction of myself. So, I stick to it.

I never do it because I like avatars, but I do block selectively.
I always block JSWolf's penguins because he changes them all the time. I blocked some other ugly "faces".
Unfortunately, a couple of months ago I made a very hard decision (I still regret it, but I cannot change my mind) and blocked an avatar of a friend. I just could not stand it anymore because I believe she is a much better/nicer/warmer/sweeter person the her avatar. This avatar didn't represent her personality in my mind.
