We can't import bananas due to strict quarantine. (The Vietnam War Veterans may go bananas if they had to eat yours!) Our industry is sensitive you know. But sheesh! last time a cyclone wiped out our bananas they went up to about $10 and settled at about $8 for a few months before normalising. Usually about $3 per kilo, and we grow them around here - NOT in a cyclone area. And the Northern Territory was NOT in the Yasi cyclone! and they still are charging a high price.
