I used a friends pocketbook for several hours. Nice little tablet, but nook is better.
Screen quality is MUCH better than Pocketbook. I have my nook being able to boot from an sd card allowing me to also have an android tablet which I like very much. I have been "playing" with the new Vizio tablet. It has an 8 inch screen as compared to the nook's 7 inch. Reading on the Vizio with the additional inch is surprisingly better than the nook. The nook's standard reader is probably a little better than the android nook reader, even though the android reader can read in landscape---a nice feature. I like several android reading apps as well or better than the nook's standard reader. Nook's pdf reader is really poor---get ezPdf reader from Barnes for a couple of dollars or you can get an android version in the market for the tab. As a tablet nook is not bad, especially with the beautiful screen. The Vizio is better since it is really a true tab..
I would highly suggest to spend some time with the nook. Borrow one from someone if possible. Seeing the demo at Barnes really does not show how much YOU will like it. You would not be making a mistake buying the nook.
On the other hand, Walmart has the Vizio tab. They have a 15 day return policy on tabs. Try it AFTER the nook, and using the nook android app that comes on the tablet. You probably will like the barnes nook reading better. Try using some reading apps on the Vizio like Fbreader, cool reader, etc. Search readers in the market---most are free. Make sure you do not get one you have to purchase. Then make a decision
Also, the Vizio has a tv, etc. controller built in. Big selling point---really only a basic controller---no big deal. Really like the GPS on the Vizio though.
Vizio is aimed at "common folks" so is really easy to learn. The more expensive tabs have better everything, but expensive. I really don't like the 10 inch for reading except for magazines--which are wonderful. Tech. has really passed the pocketbook tab. Do you live in the US? The prices you mention seem high.
I guess you can tell, I would buy the Vizio tab instead of the Nook. The Vizio, s less than $300. Really hard to decide---glad I could add more confusion. Good luck!
