It pays to play it safe.
When my son's mother was complaining to me last week that he was taking up all my bad habits (scuba diving, rock climbing, motorcycle riding, etc.,) I told her just what I told my son; it's OK to participate in dangerous activities, just so long as you do so safely. Backups, redundant safeties, and a box of band aids.
