Another computer related rant.

On Wednesday I ordered my new computer, I was very surprised when they called on Friday that it was ready. And it turned out to be too good to be true. We picked it up this morning and at 5pm, after work, I set everything up to install my software and copy my files. First I find out that my keyboard has a PS2 plug and, which I knew, my motherboard hasn't got a PS2 socket. So I had to hurry out to get a new keyboard.

After everything is hooked up I spend several hours installing my programs and copying back files. Whilst installing a Sims 3 expansion pack the HD hung. It didn't want to do anything and after a reset it didn't want to load Windows, in diagnostics mode it can find the problem but not repair it. So I reinstall Windows thinking it might just be one of those things, I was installing and copying without rebooting except when asked. The second time I regularly reboot but it started to hang again after copying some files (I had installed most of my software again, but not The Sims 3). A reboot into safe mode went fine, hoping that solved the problem I rebooted into normal Windows which also went fine. But when Windows is loaded it started to hang again.

Since I had been messing around with the computer for 5 hours and it's a brand new computer I gave up. My guess is that it's the HD, I don't think it's the combination of my software or any of the individual programs since they all worked fine on my old computer and on my notebook.

I had planned to install everything tonight and then on Sunday and Monday, my days off, spend time playing Sims on my new and fast computer. Now I have to wait until Monday 1pm before I can call the store and take the computer back to the store. I assume it will take a couple of days before they have tested and fixed whatever the problem is. The fact that it's my Miss Cranky Pants Time doesn't help either (although it might help when dealing with the computer store on Monday).

I'm now going to make a cup of tea, maybe watch a dvd if I can find anything I'm in the mood for and read my book.
