On a more practical note, wouldn't uninstalling Kindle for PC, reinstalling, and re-registering to the same account have allowed you to read your books again? I've done that myself and it worked fine for me.

ATF-Cleaner is a temp cleaner program. Not a registry cleaner program. I don't know what it removes to cause the issue. I used it because it removes the files CCleaner misses. Like in the Java Cache where malware can hide. If Amazon is putting our register info in the temp folder now well that's really not smart.
Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't seem to work. Amazon just sees it as a secondary device being added once you add your amazon account to log in.

It the past I have done that when the program refused to launch but I suspect there is something different about 1.6.0. I wish I had stayed with 1.4.1.
