If you added a cover with calibre and then converted the HTML version of the book to mobi to read on a Kindle, then I absolutely guarantee the book "HAS COVER inside." That's what happens when you convert with calibre after a metadata change/addition. Plus, the Kindle can't show metadata that doesn't exist.
