I'm not a Lovecraft fan, per se, but the majority of his writings are about placing a reader in an atmosphere, rather that character development, or story development. A different standard than what many people expect.

For the Lovecraft fans out there, who also have a taste for hard rock music, I highly recommend Blue Oyster Cult's Imaginos CD. It's a Cthulhu Mythos story told as a cycle of 9 songs. You'll need to reorder the track order to get a linear story out of it, (due to massive fighting behind the scenes between the label and the creators), and it's hard to find, but really worth the time and money to locate. (I think it's one of the finest "concept" albums ever made, even against Pink Floyd's The Wall.)
