When I was commuting on the bus I would use it a lot for reading or for watching movies - the bus ride was almost exactly the length of a TV show ripped from DVD (no ads).
Apart from that I use it while I'm browsing the local used DVD/CD stores; I have apps that I've entered my collections into, so I don't buy something I've already got (it's happened a couple of times

). When I'm shopping I use it to snap pictures of things I want to compare. For example, we saw a large welcome mat at Costco that we liked, but wanted to make sure it fit. I grabbed a picture of the product card (with measurements) so we could go home and verify that it was the right size. When comparing computers at multiple stores, I'd take pictures of the card they put out with the specs, so I could flip through them and compare.
I've also used it to take pictures of a plumbing issue that I was having, so I could show the folks at the hardware store and make sure I was buying the right parts.
I use it a lot at church - the LDS church has a fantastic application with the scriptures and various sunday school manuals and other church publications.
The end result is that I almost always take my ipad with me when I'm out, unless I'm just visiting friends.
