Same happened to mine, and Sony were equally unhelpful.

However, I decided to fix it myself. Glueing the 2 pieces back together would be no good though, as it would be very weak to lateral force, and would break again very easily.

Instead, I drilled the plastic out of the metal tube, then used the same size drill to drill a 2-3mm depth hole in the plastic top. I then took a metal pin (cut down a steel nail), and used epoxy resin to glue the pin into the plastic part, and then into the metal tube.

It's now stronger than it was originally, and I've been using it for weeks with no problem. To be honest, if Sony had agreed to send a replacement it would have probably broken again anyway. As it is, this should last years.

It's only a 10 minute job, but you need a fairly fine drill bit and need to go easy on the drill speed.
