That is a fault of Word and is carried over by the conversion process. The problem is that Word documents contains a lot of styles that have no use whatsoever for eBooks and Calibre just carries them over. The only way to deal is to then go into the ePub and clean it up. But as the Smashwords process ends after the conversion, your stuck either dealing or cleaning the ePub yourself.
This is why I dislike Smashwords. The code that comes out can be a mess and to clean it up can be a chore.

But if they don't say that then there's no way they can link to it. So that's not going to work for the author.
