The JooJoo launched (just) before the iPad, and I would imagine that the years of Crunchpad development would parallel if not precede the development of the iPad.
(In related news, the JooJoo 2 is on the horizon.)

Actually the Wiki says development started July 2008 which may be some what later than the iPad development first started but not certain... however the first release of the device was after the release of the iPad (again from the same Wiki source in your link) as it quotes
pre-orders increasing after the release of the iPad...
